Information Collection and Its Use

There are many parts of Fotchbook which may be used without logging in or registering thus not providing any personal information. In order for you to enjoy the full capacity of what fotchbook has to offer we may collect the following types of information:

Personal Information You Provide - When you become a Fotcher (register for an account at Fotchbook) we ask for some personal information such as your name, email, a password for your account, etc. Passwords are securely encrypted and stored in an encrypted format in our database. This means that even if a security hole was to occur and someone gained access to our databases, your personal password would still be safe. For more on what you can do to protect your privacy please see "Personal Information Management" below.

Cookies For the Fotch - MMmmm Cookies! Chocolate Chip, Macadamia, Oatmeal Raisin - who doesn't love them!? When you visit Fotchbook, we store some information in a cookie on your computer. The cookie is a small file containing a string of characters (sorry no chocolate chips) which uniquely identifies you. These cookies are used to store your username and password so that when you visit the site again, you will not have to re-login. Most Browsers are set to accept cookies by default, but you can change the setting to refuse all cookies or to alert you when a cookie is being created. If you choose to refuse all cookies you will have to log in to Fotchbook (and every other site for that matter) every time you visit.

Logging information - When you use Fotchbook, we may generate server logs of your activity in order to see what features Fotchers like best - and to develop new and exciting products. The logs are not intrusive upon privacy as they will only store your username, browser information, and the date and time of your request.

Fotcher Communications - When you send email or other message to us at Fotchbook, we may choose to use those communications in our FAQ (frequently asked questions) and for any other purposes we see fit.

Affiliated Sites - Any advertising you see on the page is there because it allows us to offer Fotchbook as a free no-charge service. Behind Fotchbook there are servers, domain names, and people. All of these require revenue of some sort and our advertisers keep us afloat. Personal Information (including email) will never be handed to any third party without your consent.

Content and External Links - Since Fotchbook's content is almost entirely Fotcher generated, Fotchbook cannot be responsible for Fotcher negligence. We will do our best to monitor the site and remove any vulgar or offensive content. Since Fotchbook allows users to post external links in their messages, we also claim no responsibility for the content they provide.

Fotchbook processes personal information on our servers in Canada, but in some cases (maybe in the future), we may process personal information on a server outside Canada. If this were to occur, we will ensure that all important information is encrypted and sent over a secure connection.

Personal Information Management

When you sign up for a Fotchbook account, we ask you to provide some personal information in order to identify you and to provide some user interactivity. Some fotchers may be concerned about others viewing their private information - particularly their email address. We all hate opening our inbox and finding a billion spam emails.

In order to prevent this, Fotchbook displays emails in a non standard way; for example: instead of user@site.com, we could show user At Site dot com. By keeping the way email addresses are displayed somewhat random we try to prevent automated email snatchers.

In addition, in your User Control Panel you have the option to hide some information including your Email, Zip Code (for US) and Birthday. If at some point our privacy policy changes significantly (more than fixing a type-o) we will notify you.

Information Security

We take security very seriously. Aside from the level of physical safety present at our datacenters with security; we also take measures to protect against unauthorized access from the internet. All passwords are stored in an encrypted format, so no one can login to your account unless they actually know your password. We continually monitor for any intrusions and take appropriate measures.

Data Integrity

Fotchbook staff and moderators will try to maintain the integrity of our data, but since Fotchbook's data is user generated we depend on our users to update or correct their personal information when necessary. Personal Information can easily be edited from your User Control Panel.

Changes to this Policy

Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time if necessary. Fotchbook will alert you if any major changes are taking place. Additionally, older versions of the policy will be kept in an archive which can be accessed upon request.
